Suggest reasons for the sharp rise in juvenile delinquency in recent years
Family influences: -When parents do not spend enough time with their children, these children may feel lonely and left out.Parental conflict, child abuse and a family history of problem like drug use also plays a part in the sharp rise in juvenile delinquency because these children cannot experience family love. This results in them turning to peers who engage in anti-social behaviour as they find that these gangsters are 'cool' and can 'protect' them.Another reason is that for parents who have criminal pasts, their children may follow in their footsteps since they look up to their parents as role models.

Peer group influences: -Nowadays, youngsters especially gangsters, tend to be strongly influenced to commit crimes such as assaults, stealing etc. This is because they have to prove to the gang leader that they have the guts and courage to commit crimes in order for them to remain in the gang. However, these people usually do not get a choice to back out as they may be beaten up if they do not do what the gang leaders say.Furthermore, they do not want to be labelled as 'losers' so they are more of 'forced' to commit crimes.

Neighbourhood and community factors: -Children in neighbourhoods that are both poor and beset by social problems, including gangs, are often not adequately socialised, especially when their parents are also poor. They fail to develop personal life skills and related attitudes expected in mainstream society. They often develop values and behaviours opposite that of the society.

Media influences: There may be some violences such as murder scenes on tv and killing is the goal in many computer games. This can result in chilren learning aggressive techniques including punching, kicking etc which they may apply in real life.Hence, the juvenile arrests for assault cases had increased tremendously in recent years as well.
